Sometimes, even in a field as trendsetting as teeth whitening, progress takes we back to where we started. That appears to be the case today as many dentists nationwide are choosing to forego in-office laser or LED-light activated whitening systems in favor of take-home whitening kits featuring custom-fitted mouth trays.

It begins when the bacteria in plaque (the sticky, colorless film that constantly forms on your teeth) causes the gums to become inflamed.

Give gum disease pictures and treatment?
When gingivitis is not treated, it can advance to "periodontitis" (which means "inflammation around the tooth.") In periodontitis, gums pull away from the teeth and form spaces (called "pockets") that become infected. The body's immune system fights the bacteria as the plaque spreads and grows below the gum line. Bacterial toxins and the body's natural response to infection start to break down the bone and connective tissue that hold teeth in place. If not treated, the bones, gums, and tissue that support the teeth are destroyed. The teeth may eventually become loose and have to be removed.

What is the difference between canker sores and herpes?
There is often confusion between canker sores and cold sores. In a nutshell, canker sores are painful ulcers, or open sores, on the inner membranes of the mouth and cheek, or can resemble pimples on the tongue. Canker sores are not considered to be contagious and are of uncertain origin.
Cold sores, on the other hand, are small red blisters that generally affect the mouth and facial areas, but usually appear on the lip and outer edge of the mouth. In contrast to canker sores, cold sores are extremely contagious and are most often caused by the Herpes Simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1). More importantly, when oral herpes lesions and/or its contents come into direct contact with the genital area through oral-genital sex, genital herpes most likely will develop.

Do all baby teeth fall out?
Most of your baby teeth come out on their own but sometimes they won’t come out. Sometimes if baby teeth haven't come out and they have to they will get pulled out by the dentist. Sometimes if a baby/you have somehow tinkered with nature when you were born your molars might get replaced by new molars. (Don’t say am lying, it’s happening to me right now o).

Dear Dr. Beecham,
I am writing in response to the post advertised in Medical eye Magazine (ref. RD5CDC) for the position of junior dental assistant within your practice.

Treating gum disease during pregnancy?
Many women make healthy changes to their lifestyle before becoming pregnant in order to have an uncomplicated pregnancy and ultimately a healthy baby. You may want to consider the state of your oral health and treat gum disease before becoming pregnant. Book an appointment with your dentist for a check-up and cleaning, and discuss any concerns you may have regarding your oral health before pregnancy.
Give oral hygiene instructions for patients?
Teeth should be brushed after every meal. Angle the toothbrush to a 45 degree angle above and below the bracket for both top and bottom, then go ahead with brushing your teeth, making sure you brush all the surfaces. Special attention should be given to the back gum line because it is a hard to reach area and it can cause swelling of the gums if they are not taken care of properly. Smoking, drinking excessive tea and/or coffee, and red wine, can stain clear brackets. Floss your teeth at least once a day. Flossing with braces can be more time consuming when you are first learning. Do not get discouraged; it will get easier. Try flossing before bedtime, this way you have more time without being rushed.
How to prevent ceramic braces from staining?
I wore ceramic braces for the better part of the past year. Primarily it is the sort of 'rubber band' like bits that surround the brackets and hold the wire that will begin to discolor if you have chosen 'white' or 'clear'. My dentist offered more frequent changes of the bands to adult patients who were concerned about such things - so that's something you may want to inquire about. Otherwise avoiding coffee, teas, colas and other things that stain teeth are things to consume minimally if you're overly conscious of staining. Brushing religiously after consuming those sorts of things will also help. My favorite tools for maintaining a clean smile while wearing braces however, were a WaterPik (a must!) and Colgate's Peroxyl rinse (which contains hydrogen peroxide). I started making my own (Peroxyl is spendy) rinse from equal parts hydrogen peroxide and inexpensive mouth wash (be sure to put it in an opaque bottle though to preserve the peroxide).
Give canker sores on tongue home remedies?
Canker sore prevention may be a lot easier than treatment in some situations, but very often, despite the best precautions you may still be afflicted with the painful condition. If modifications to your diet, reduction of stress levels, increased levels of dental hygiene and care and other preventive measures do not help prevent the appearance of canker sores you could try using a variety of natural canker sore remedies to relieve the pain and symptoms and hasten the healing process. You may often come across the question “how to get rid of canker sores fast.”, but the truth is that there is no quick cure for the problem. Most canker sore remedies for kids, toddlers or adults simply help to relieve the pain and symptoms and may hasten recovery to some extent, but there are none that work fast enough. With the best treatment canker sores will still last for a couple of days. Taking precautions and using remedies however will help to prevent further problems and will help avoid aggravating the condition, which would naturally prolong it.

Of clean pearly whites.I've been to the dentist a thousand times so I know the drill, I smooth my hair, Sit back in the chair And some how I still get the chills Have a seat he says pleasantly,
As he shakes my hand and practically laughs at me, "open up nice and wide" he says peering in, And with a smirk he says "don't have a fit, This will just pinch a bit"
As he tries not to grin.
