To become a registered dental assistant, applicants must have graduated from a dental assistant training program accredited by CODA (Commission on Dental Accreditation). A dental assistant
training program prepares students to work in a dental office. Some of the coursework includes oral anatomy, instrument sterilization procedures, patient care and medical terminology. As of 2010, the Commission on Dental Accreditation has accredited a total of three schools within Arizona. These schools include Phoenix College, Pima County Community College and Rio Salado College.
